Time Requirement

The Miss San Joaquin County competition is a "local" preliminary to Miss California.  Therefore, earning the title of Miss San Joaquin County or Greater East Bay means you become an ambassadress of San Joaquin County and Greater East Bay and our Scholarship Alliance throughout the year of your reign.  Thus, these titles require: time, energy, commitment, and taking an active role in promoting the Program through in our community.  A list of these events will be provided prior to the competition.

Scholarships

This is a Scholarship Organization. Therefore, the primary awards given are in the form of scholarships. Come to an Informational meeting to learn about all the various scholarship opportunity.

Eligibility and Other Requirements

To be eligible to compete for the title of Miss San Joaquin County or Miss Greater East Bay a young woman must either reside, attend school or be employed in one of our franchise counties (currently Franchise counties include:  San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Alameda, Contra Costa and Amador. 

 

Age (18* - 26 years of age)

  • Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age on December 31st in the calendar year of the State Competition in which she competes;
  • Must not be older than twenty-six (26) years of age as of December 31st in the calendar year of the State Competition in which she competes 
  • For the avoidance of doubt, Candidate cannot turn twenty-seven (27) years of age at any time during the calendar year in which she could compete at the State Competition. (Calendar Year defined as January 1st through December 31st).
  • For the avoidance of doubt, Candidate cannot be eighteen (18) years of age on December 31st in the year she could compete at the State Competition. If the candidate is eighteen (18) years of age on December 31st in the year she could compete at the State Competition, then she must compete in the MAO Teen program, unless she meets the Grandfather Clause below.
  • Grandfather Clause for 2022 State and Local Agreements ONLY: Since age eligibility was revised after the start of the 2022 state & local competition season, Candidates who are:
  • 1) eighteen (18) years of age on or after July 31, 2022 (the year of the State Competition) are eligible to compete in the Miss program, as long as the Candidate is also a high school graduate or equivalent by July 31, 2022. Please note, this exemption will not be in effect for the 2023 State & Local Competition season. 


Residence

  • Must be a resident of Local counties for at least 6 months prior to the first day of competition of the local program
  •  District school for at least one full semester and is currently enrolled.
  • Or - must attend college full-time at the local county colleges.
  • Or - must wok 32-40 hours per week in the counties listed.


Other Requirements

          *  U.S. Citizen

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Female
  • Fluent in English
  • Never been married
  • Not the adoptive parent of any child
  • Never been convicted of a crime and there are no criminal charges or investigations pending
  • Has never performed any act that would be characterized as dishonest, immoral, or indecent.
  • In good health
  • Does not use or consume any illegal, controlled, or dangerous substances or abuse the use of alcohol or other dangerous substances.


At the local level, there is a registration fee of $75 paid to Miss America Organization.  However, contestants are encouraged to participate in various fundraisers, including selling tickets to the pageant and advertisements in our Pageant Program Book.

Time Requirement

The title of Miss San Joaquin County's Outstanding Teen is  "local" preliminary to Miss California’s Outstanding Teen. Therefore, being named Miss San Joaquin County and Miss Greater East Bay's Outstanding Teen means you become an ambassadress of San Joaquin County and Greater East Bay our Scholarship Alliance throughout the year of your reign.  Thus, this title requires: time, energy, commitment, and taking an active role in promoting the Program through your platform in your community. 

A list of these events will be provided prior to the competition. 

Financial Requirement

A minimum sponsorship of $250.00 is required of all Outstanding Teen contestants.   This sponsorship includes a half page advertisement in our 2023 Program Book and a minimum scholarship to each contestant.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to compete for the title of Miss San Joaquin County’s and Miss Greater East Bay's Outstanding Teen, a young woman must:  

  • Either reside or attend school in San Joaquin, Stanislaus. Alameda, Contra Costa and Amador Counties.  
  • Be a citizen of the United States at the commencement of the Local Competition and must remain such throughout her participation within the State Competition and, if selected as the State Representative, the National Competition
  • Be at least thirteen (13) years of age on the first day of the State Competition in which she competes; and must not be older than seventeen (17) years of age as of July 31 in the calendar year of the State Competition in which she competes, unless she is 18 years old and has not graduated from high school as of July 31 in the calendar year of the State Competition in which she competes.  For the avoidance of doubt, 13- to 17-year-old high school graduates and non-graduates, as well as 18-year-old non-graduates as of July 31, must compete at MAOTeen level. A 12-yearold is eligible for MAOTeen local competitions if she will turn 13 on or before the first day of the State Competition in which she competes.
